Last March 21, Sunday, the East Coast Chapter
of the Tanjay Association USA had a Spring Luncheon get-together and
Induction Ceremony at the Crystal Ballroom of the Yankee Buffet and
Restaurant. The lunch was sumptuous - all you could eat, and it
started
at about 11:30 am. So by the time the affair was breaking up at 4:30
pm,
the buffet was still open, and many again took advantage, and rightly
so,
due to the almost non-stop dancing.
During the induction ceremony, the officers
were sworn in by reading from a script that, among others, pledged
that:..
"I will do honor and bring glory to the Organization, I will work very
hard
towards the financial stability of this organization, I will exert all
efforts
to the betterment of Tanjay, and I will profess loyalty to my native
land,
Philippines my Philippines."
The dance hall was huge, and could easily
accommodate all the guests, who numbered 109, arranged in 14 tables
around the dance floor. That exact count was because we were sitting at
the table of Chapter president and organizer Perla Labe-Pinzon,
and her husband Dr
Manny was doing all the head counting. The magic break-even number
was
65, and by all counts, the Association made a handsome sum. LA

the cover charge was only $30
perperson, and the buffet cost was less than half of that, while the
cost of the DJ and the DIs were already covered by individual donations
and pledges from generous members, who had succumbed to Perla’s
fund-raising collective ability and charm.
There also was a raffle, with donated
prizes from some members, and part of the cash proceeds were plowed
back
as the first prize. The lucky winner who got the $100 prize was none
other
than Anita Olis, who had earlier been relating her wonderful
experiences with the LA Tanjayanons a few weeks earlier.
Much honor was given to the Aguilar family,
whose membership made up almost a quarter of the group. Last month, the
last and 11th sibling of the family arrived from Tanjay.
Guests came in from as far as
Pennsylvania. We were disappointed when Dr Batiancilla,
Luding Alvarez, and Basilia Ramirez couldn’t make it after all.
It was a day of fun and camaraderie, and
when compared to LA’s founding organization, the relatively new Chapter
also has relatively younger membership.
Kudos for the other organizers, Malda
Gomez, Baby Villanueva, Menchu Diago, Diosa Flores, and others.
