naka-experience jud ko sa vote-buying! Gi-oferan 'ko ug one hundred pesos,
pero ning-balibad ko kay dili man ko maka-votar. Ag malditang Evalina
ning-dawat jud sa iyang 150 pesos kay iya konong i-pohonan sa mahjongg!
Two days before elections, sa tiangge, ga-suroy ag usa ka campaigner, and
she was giving out 50-peso bills left and right! (Note: The Friday before
elections, all the banks in the Philippines had run out of 50- and 100-peso
notes!) Ang usa nako ka amigo nga ning-lansar pagka-consehal (na-pyerde)
ning sugilon nga ang ila konong grupo ang pinaka-maayo sa pag-distribute
sa kwarta. This was the modus operandi: SaDomingo sa gabi-i,
when the campaigning ban was on, ag mga kandidatos nangadto sa mga baryo
harong mang-hatag ug kwarta. Pag-larga sa usa ka partido, mo-abut
na pud ang laing partido - with more money. Unya, pag-larga na pud,
mo-balik na pud ag primerong partido, harong mang-hatag ug mas dagku pang
kantidad - and so on and so forth. The "winner" in this distribution
game was the partido who gave money about two hours before voting started
at 6:00 in the morning. Ang pinaka-ta-as nga hatag konohay up to
1,000 pesos.
Dinha po'y usa ka maestra nga layhang mo-adto
sa C.R., unya kay wala man siya'y ma-adto-an,
ning-pauli siya sa ilang balay - nga ga-bit-bit
sa iyang precious ballot box!! Maayo gani kono kay wala niya gi-ilo ag
mga balotas....

volunteers ang nag-maneho. Ang mga gastos sa pag-ka-on gikan sa contributions
from Tanjayanons. Ang ilang mga pagka-on gi-luto pud sa mga
volunteers (didto sa ilang ka-Tio Jesus Limbaga
ang mga "cookers" - si Epion, Pinang, Evalina, Helen, and others).
Unya kada gabi-i na'ay maga-vigil nga volunteers to guard against harassment
and open cheating.
ANG MGA SUNDALO NANGABUT! For the
first time in Tanjay election history, may mga sundalo nga fully armed
nga ga-bantay sa munisipyo sa buntag sa May 14th. Wala'y naka-hibalo
ug nganong
didto sila - tingali kono kay ang mga tawo ning
Salma naga-parada to celebrate, and the soldiers were there to "protect"
them. Pero nanga-hadlok intawon ang mga tawo nga naga-suroy-suroy sa munisipyo.
Karon, naka-hibalo na jud 'ta ug nganong gina-ingon
nga kita konong mga Pinoys, pag-abut sa
Amerika, dili kono layhang mo-get-involved in
politics! Can anyone blame us????

Post-Election Happenings....
Abi dagway ninyo ug ang elections lang ang
nagpa-hurak sa atong ginhawa? Huna-huna-a lang
ninyo ug unsa'y mga na-hitabo pagka-human
sa elections:
Si Marcos hapit na unta ma-lubong sa Libingan
ng mga Bayani! Si Erap kursonado kaayo sa
iyang decision to bury Marcos there. Pero
bilib pa jud 'ta sa ka-kusog sa anti-Marcos sentiment, kay in the end,
ning-surrender si Imelda (konohay), ug iyang gi-withdraw ang request to
bury FM in the cemetery for heroes. You might be proud to know that
among the many anti-Marcos voices were Tanjayanons, who actively participated

The in-coming president's
message
This year's celebration
is special because we are having the Tanjay Fiesta Inaugural Dinner
and Ball on July 25th, the actual fiesta date. We hope that you
will take time out from your busy schedules and join us in celebrating
the fiesta. There are not too many times in the year that we have
the opportunity to get together and socialize with family and friends.
We are especially hoping that those of you from outside of California will
come and celebrate the fiesta with us. Life is short and occasions
such as these relieve a lot of the stress we get from work and life itself.
Please bring your family and friends to the events.
The reception
for out of town guests will be at Danny and Badingding (Señeris)
Gil's residence. This will give our visitors the chance to "break
the ice" with the local Tanjay Association members before the dinner dance
and the picnic.
The dinner dance
at the Spectrum Executive Club in Fullerton (Orange County) is also
the occasion for the formal inducting of officers. Please make
your reservations early. At
the dinner dance, we will have dance instructors
(DI's). Please contact Gigi Villahermosa at (909) 869-6447
if you are interested to have one of these instructors assigned to your
table.
Tickets for the dinner dance have been mailed
to your homes.
A souvenir program for
the dinner dance is in the making. We hope that you will not only
help solicit ads for the program but also put one of your own.
This year the association has also put an ad in the Tanjay's Souvenir program
for the fiesta.
We also hope to see
you all at the Tanjay Fiesta Picnic at Tri-City Park in Placentia (Orange
County).
A picnic "flyer"
will be mailed out containing more details and directions to the picnic
site.

Ang ka-sunod kono nga pro-Marcos happenings under
an Erap presidency will be the pardoning of
Imelda; the return of the coconut
levy funds to Danding Cojuangco, and the "forgiveness" of Lucio
Tan's unpaid taxes - ada, 25 bilyon pesos ra bitaw! Unya
malu-oy pud 'ta ning Lucio kay ang Philippine Airlines ma-bankrupt naman!
Don't be surprised if Erap will introduce a decree to change the image
of our Lady of Edsa to that of Imee Marcos, and the image of the statue
of Ninoy Aquino (in Ayala Avenue) to that of Bong-bong!
Tan-awa ra si Erap, wala pa gani ma-sworn-in,
daghan na'ng ka-gubot! Gi-headline pa gani nga
ang incoming president of the Philippines daghan
diay'ng anak sa guwa! (As a Manila newspaper
headlined it, "Father of Nation Also Fathered
10 Children"). Gi-lista pa ang mga ngalan sa
mga anak (puro kono "J" ang sugod sa mga ngalan),
ug ag ilang mga inahan. Matud pa ning
Erap, "There is no such thing as an illegitimate
child," as long kono as the child is
supported. Wow, ang "marriage vows"
nahimo nang bow-wow-wow.
And, closer to our hometown....kahibalo ba 'mo
nga ang theme song kono sa atong bag-ong mayor
nga si Baltazar Salma is, "Poor Mother Hubbard,
when she looked in the cupboard - - -", kay wala na kono'y kwarta ang Tanjay.
Daku kono ug utang ang lungsod.
Pero mona'y gui-ingon itong tigulang inahan
sa nars, "Bisa'g unsaon, bisa'g unsa'y mahitabo, bisa'g unsa pa'y
inyong isulti, ug inyo kong papili-on, anhi diri sa Tanjay ra gyud guihapon
ko mopuyo!"
