MESSAGE FROM INCOMING PRESIDENT
Come
July 25, 1998 we will be celebrating the 14th anniversary of the Tanjay
Association, USA. It is a testament to the Tanjayanons and their
friends
that the association has not only survived the trials of time but has
in
fact become stronger. Under the able leadership of past presidents, the
association has stood steadfast. Our mission is to reach out to all
Tanjayanons
wherever they may be. The newsletter "Ang Tanjayanon" has made
that possible. This newsletter was the brainchild of the big 3, Perla
"Falang"
Manapol, Braddock Calumpang, and Danny (Badingding's better half) Gil.
They have done a fantastic job of creating a unique newsletter that has
brought laughter to everyone who has had the opportunity to read it.
The
exciting thing about the newsletter is that it provides us the
opportunity
to share jokes and news solicited from Tanjayanons and friends all over
the world (from Abongon to Anaheim, from Novallas to New York). A lot
of
time and effort goes into the making
of a newsletter and what is
amazing is that all
the work is done voluntarily and from the heart. Braddock, Danny, and
Perla,
on behalf of all Tanjayanons who have enjoyed reading the newletters,
thank
you. Effective this year, I have taken over the helm of this
organization
from Badingding who has made significant strides in making this
association
stronger. My mission and I know I speak for other officers as well is
to
get all members more involved in the organization. As an organization,
we need to think of ways to make a difference in the lives of the poor
in Tanjay. This goal is even more important in light of the devaluation
of our peso. The old clothes, shoes, etc. that we distributed to the
needy
in July's "Balik Tanjay Fiesta" trip I am sure meant much to
the recipients. Any ideas from the membership on how to make a
difference
is welcome. To those Tanjayanons who took time from their very busy
schedules
to write and mail their membership check, we say thank you. The money
is
put to good use. We just purchased a color printer for the newsletter.
As you can see, this newsletter has some colored pictures in it. Our
next
project will be the making of a Directory of all Tanjayanons. We will
be
keeping you posted on this development.

Pakapin to Fern's message (from
one of the web-savvy
editors):
Though
largely unnoticed
by majority of the Ang Tanjayanon Newsletter readers, an even
greater
solo effort has been made by none other than Iking Cariño.
Since almost 2 years ago, Iking created and has maintained a web
site
for the Tanjayanons. This Tanjayanon "home" in cyberspace features
the newsletters prominently, and has other bits of Tanjay lore. One can
register as a Tanjayanon and email directly those others who have also
registered. It also has links to other local sites such as an email
member
list of graduates from ENI, local and Philippine newspapers, etc. There
is a "hit" rate tally sheet which tells how many people have
visited the site, and this is what Iking likes to check and remark on.
As this goes to press, there already have been more than a thousand
hits,
or vistiors to the website! Starting March 15, the new website's URL
will
be at http://www2.jps.net/~enriqueb/ What is amazing is that a
number
of Tanjayanons have surfaced only because of the web page. Excerpts:
Junie Fortin: Kumusta
na kamong mga
taga Tanjay. Regards to Jimmy Zerna ug Inday Lillian. Hope they still
remember
me, son of Bening Fortin.
Bienvenido Fortin, Jr: Kumusta
na lang
sa mga Tanjayanon, especially to the Fortin Family.
