TANJAYANONS FACE DIFFICULT YEAR AHEAD

Kitang tanan dinhi sa USA kahibalo na nga the peso has been devalued almost 40%, the stock market has suffered big losses, and that the "Asian flu" will bring hard times not only to the Philippines but also to most other countries in Asia.
Magpa-salamat na lang kono ang mga Pinoy kay others are worse off. Pero unsaon man nimo nga the prices of basic goods have gone up, many companies are laying off workers, if not closing down operations, and many overseas contract workers, especially the unskilled, gipa-pa-uli na?
Daghang mga Filipino diplomats in dollar-expensive postings are also being sent back to Manila. Pag-sakay pa lang nimo sa aeroplano from California to Manila, ma-ilhan na nimo nga these are difficult times: ka-daghang empty seats! Unya sa PAL ticket offices all over Manila, wala na'y linya, wala na'y "take a number" kay dyutay na lang ang mang-viaje by air.
Ang maka-parat sa atong situation sa Pilipinas is the coming elections in May, kay, like it or not, ang reaction of foreign investors to whoever wins the Presidency will have a major effect on our economy.
Dili kita Niya pasagdan." And to quote a journalist: "If we Filipinos stop being happy every time there is a crisis, we will cease to exist!"
So, in the next few pages, it's lingaw-lingaw as usual. I-sige ang katawa, i-sige ang hudyaka. As our old folks say, "Way kaso, sige ang bayle!" - kay di ba, that is the Tanjayanon's way of coping!
