When Messrs. Hornobono Adaza et al. insist that the abolition of the Batasan denies the people of representation in the legislative process, they are unduly flattering themselves.

No one in his right mind expected the Batasan to be anything but a rubber stamp for Mr. Marcos. And nobody expected any oppositionist who was allowed to sit in the Batasan to play a major role in legislation.

The major reason people voted for oppositionists like Mr. Adaza was to signal their displeasure with the Marcos regime. Mr. Adaza himself should be the first on to realize that he was not elected to be a legislator but to be a gadfly.

When Mr. Adaza et al. insist that the Batasan be retained, they are in effect demanding that give Messrs. Blas Ople, Arturo Pacificador, Nicanor Yniguez, Cesar Virata, and the rest of the Marcos clones a majority in the legislature.

And what do they get in exchange? Only the continuation of Mr. Adaza and people like him on the public payroll!
