Mr. & Ms. Special Edition

The percentages reported in your survey (Mr. & Ms., Mar. 1-7) are all wrong.

All the percentages reported seem to have been based on the assumption that a total of 6,556 votes were cast. In fact, the total number of votes cast was 6,729 and it is this total that should be the base of the percentages.

When the correct total is used, Mr. Jose Diokno receives 4.027 per cent of the vote instead of the 4.134 per cent reported. All the other percentages will have to be recomputed accordingly.

The error seems to spring from the fact that somehow 173 votes received by Mr. Bartolome Cabangbang were somehow dropped in the computation for the total number of votes cast.

Further -- while Mr. Cabangbang is reported to have received 173 votes, his federal Party is said to have received 130. Which is right?

Finally, the Liberal Party average is given as 333.3. This figure would be correct only if Mr. Rodolfo Ganzon -- who is listed in your sample ballot as the Lapiang Manggagawa candidate -- is counted as a Liberal. Otherwise, the LP average is 329 (Mrs. Eva Estrada-Kalaw’s 339 and Mr. Jovito Salonga’s 269).

These errors may have been due to the fact that your tabulators were only students from the University of the Philippines at Diliman.
