The nomination of Amando Doronila to the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines (The Times, Apr. 2) presumes that Mr. Doronila is a Filipino citizen.

But he is still one?

Doronila was so disgusted over our acquiescence with martial law that between his release from detention and his migration to Australia, he invariably referred to the Philippines as "your country," to Mr. Marcos as "your President," and to all Filipinos as "your people."

I therefore expected Doronila to change his citizenship (and perhaps, even his name) as soon as possible.

If he is now an Australian citizen, he cannot hold public office. But if he would want to resume his Filipino citizenship, I would not object. Those of us who did not object to "our President" Marcos extending citizenship of "our country" to Ronnie Nathanielsz can do no less in the Doronila’s case.
