The Civil Assembly of Women of the Philippines (CAWP) is the major loser in the cat-fight between former Social Services Minister Estefa Aldaba-Lim and Member of Parliament Helena Z. Benitez (PDI, Mar. 8 & 9).

If it is true, as Dr. Lim claims, that P21 million had been earmarked for the CAWP in exchange for its support in the last elections, the CAWP comes out as an organization on sale to the highest bidder. It may sell out for a huge sum, but it is for sale nevertheless.

If it is true, again as Dr. Lim contends, that MP Benitez pocketed the money, the CAWP comes out as a naive and stupid organization that couldn’t hold on to it’s money.

But if it is true, as MP Benitez protests, that there never was such an appropriation in the first place, the CAWP comes out as a deluded organization that saw money where there was none and traded its electoral support for a mirage.

It is no surprise that no CAWP officer has opened her mouth on the controversy. Who wants to be known as a leader of an organization which is either venal and/or stupid?
