Business Day

There were very few deaths that accompanied the toppling of the Marcos dictatorship, the killings that took place during the abortive takeover of the Makati police station were absolutely unnecessary and pointless.

Despite the efforts of media to urge the radio and television audience to remain calm, a number of radicals who were given some time on the microphone took this opportunity to urge the people to take over the local governments and boasted of easy success in and around Manila.

I fear that the people who precipitated the tragic event in Makati may have been goaded by these irresponsible inflammatory broadcasts.

I hope the investigation will establish the extent, if any, to which these irresponsible broadcasters may be blamed for the Makati massacre.
