Mr. & Ms. Special Edition

I vehemently protest the discrimination one of your juniors writers has practiced against Mr. R. Estanol Otico (Special Edition, Feb. 7.)

Like Mrs. Lorna Kalaw-Tirol and Miss Sheila Coronel, Mr. Otico left "Panorama" magazine to join "The Manila Times." Nonetheless, your writer pictured only these two ladies (and the lady editor who quit shortly afterwards) as resigning on the question of principle.

To omit Mr. Otico’s motives in an article celebrating Mrs. Tirol et al.’s professional commitments can only imply that he was moved by non-professional and less-than-noble considerations like money, power, and maybe even sex.

Anyone who knows the professionalism and idealism of Mr. Otico (after martial law was declared, he went home and planted camotes rather than become a government shill) can only attribute this silence to ignorance, insensitiveness, and/or arrant sexist discrimination.

You will therefore understand why I condemn the writer of the article as an ignorant female chauvinist sow!
