Assemblyman Jose Conrado Benitez (KBL, Pasay) was elected to a legislative, not an executive position and so, contrary to what Mr. Jeremy Santos would have us believe (Mr. & Ms., Feb 22-28), it was not Mr. Benitez’s responsibility to rush to the burning Regent Hotel, direct fire-fighting operations, or stop the looting.

These are the responsibilities of Mayor Pablo Cuneta and Vice-Governor Ismael Mathay -- the two persons whom Mr. Santos should have likened to either Pontius Pilate or Nero.
