Mr. Luis D. Beltran
The Daily Inquirer
Sir:

Your Gemma Almendral is messing up Mrs. Linda Kapunan’s account of why the computer people of the Commission on Elections walked out (FDI, Feb. 14).

What kind of a journalist is Almendral if she is a journalist at all? Over two-thirds of the article consists of direct quotes from Mrs. Kapunan, with absolutely no explanation of the technical terms she uses.

Almendral does not explain (or ask Mrs. Kapunan to explain) what is meant by "logging a return," "batching the returns," or "developing a system."

A decent clerk-typist would check the spelling of words she is unfamiliar with. Almendral does not bother. She writes: Lotus 123" for "Lotus 1-2-3" and "Debase" for "dBASE."

To avoid further "debasement" of Mrs. Kapunan’s account, please replace Almendral with someone who is computer literate or at least, a clerk-typist more professional than Almendral.
