We, the People (The Manila Times)

Thank you for publishing the feature story on Nida Blanca, one of my favorite stars (The Times, Apr. 6).

The bonus of the story was getting to know that it was Ninoy Aquino who wrote the screenplay for Korea.

I had gone to this movie because it starred one of my long-time favorite idols, Jaime de la Rosa. I also liked co-star Gil de Leon (he played the role of the company commander). I saw Nida Blanca for the first time in this film and her award-winning performable made me her favorite fan forever.

Permit me to point out one error in the article. When Bonnie Serrano visited the movie set, he was not yet a colonel. He was a captain . . . or so I vaguely recall from the 1952 issue of the defunct Literary-Song-Movie Magazine. Serrano went to Korea as a first lieutenant. His heroism won him a battle-field promotion to captain.

Korea recounted his exploits. But reasons that were never clear to me, the hero in the movie was named "Bonnie Velasco," not "Bonnie Serrano."

Again, thank you for bringing back my teen-age (1952) memories.
