Mr. Luis D. Beltran
Editor / Columnist
The Philippine Daily Inquirer

Dear Louie:

Harry’s asking himself, "Am I that easy to forget?"

How could you say (Inquirer, Jan. 7) that when you first became a reporter, your "publisher was Max Soliven"?

That just isn’t true. Max didn’t become publisher till about mid-1961. You were writing "Between Deadlines" once a week before that. You were Charlie Castaneda’s legman earlier.

Nobody really held title of publisher before it was given to Max, although the person who watched over the paper for the owner, the soon-to-be-deported Harry Stonehill, was Louis J. Farb. Remember good old Lou whom you used to sneer at as "That Jew"? The business side was handled by Edgardo Tordesillas who had the title of Executive Director.

I do not blame you for trying to forget (if not actually conceal) your early association with Stonehill.

But Louie, your link to Stonehill is a matter of public record. A comparison of your columns after his arrest with your later writings will reveal that in your pantheon of loyalties, Stonehill occupies third place, ranking lower only than the late Mayor Arsenio H. Lacson and the very-much-alive Gen. Fabian Ver.

Please learn the lesson taught by your Vanguard brod, Ferdinand Marcos, and the Maharlika papers: the truth will out.

O. NERI
