Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino’s use of cosmetics is a personal matter totally irrelevant to her qualifications for the Presidency and so, I reacted very negatively when the First Lady dismissed Mrs. Aquino as a woman who did not use make-up pr manicure her nails.

I also reacted very negatively to your cover story (Jan. 17) which treated the First Lady’s flippant criticisms as a valid issue. Your cosmetic-and-sartorial update on Mrs. Aquino assures us quite seriously that Mrs. Aquino "wears lipstick, ‘just a shade, but lipstick nonetheless’ ".

For over two years, the products of Corito Fiel’s journalistic sweat have crossed your desk. Haven’t you seen enough to conclude she can’t distinguish between the important from the trivial and there is very little hope for improvement?

If you must keep her on, can’t you at least limit Ms. Fiel’s assignments to such inane society-page doings as the topic of her other Jan. 17 article, the breathless, inarticulate "Red, white & blue, stars over you; Mama said, Papa said vote KBL"?
