Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile has time and time again assured us that he and his Ministry are exerting their best efforts to keep the insurgency problem under control. I have always accepted his assurances, reasoning that Minister Enrile has far, far more to lose than I have if the communists take over.

But having learned about Mr. Enrile’s investments abroad, I have lost much of my faith in his reassurances. I fear that if the tide of battle starts turning in favor of the communists, Mr. Enrile can very well flee the Philippines, take residence at 2190 Broadway Street, San Francisco, and comfortably live off the undoubtedly legal investments of the Renatsac Corporation.
