Mr. & Mrs. Special Edition

Mr. Maximo V. Solivan made some factual errors in his column of February 14th.

1.  Luis Somoza "took over" Nicaragua not in 1967 but in 1956 when he was named Acting President after his father, Anastacio "Tacho" Somoza Garcia was assasinated.  Luis completed his father’s term and was elected President in 1957 and served until 1983.

2.  It was not Luis but his brother, Anastacio, who served as President from 1967 to 1975 and ran for reelection.

3.  The younger Anastacio was nicknamed "Tachito" (not "Tacho").  It was he who was toppled in 1978.

4.  "Tachito" was the son, not the grandson of "Tacho," hence, Nicaragua was ruled by two, not three, generations of Somozas.
