People’s Forum / MALAYA / August 14, 1985

Atty. Francis Garchitorena is of course correct when he argues that the Ateneo students who prevented the Citizen Military Training cadets from attending a CMT formation were violating the cadets’ constitutional rights (MALAYA, Aug. 13).

Obviously, I agree with Attorney Garchitorena that these students should be disciplined. I would have supported the CMT cadets if they had accused these students before the appropriate court of violating their constitutional rights.

But the fact of the matter is that it was the CMT commandant who filed charges; he accused the students of sedition; and he complained to the university administration, demanding the expulsion of these students.

Wrong complainant, wrong charge, wrong court.

Given these defects, how could anyone support the complaint?
