Letter to the Editor
San Jose Mercury News
San Jose, CA.

Sir:

We don’t get the "Mercury-News" in Manila and so, it wasn’t until this week that Manila’s reading public got to read your expose on the billions of dollars invested abroad by our First Family and their cronies. The expose was ignored by Manila’s establishment press (newspapers controlled by the President’s cronies) but reprinted by the alternative press. One multi-million peso libel suit has already been filed against one of these tabloids and more such suits are being threatened.

I am writing this letter to thank you for the service your expose has done for our people and to assure you that the main reason why you won’t receive many appreciative letters from the Philippines is the very high cost of postage: it would take the average Manila employee 30 minutes to earn enough to buy the stamp I’ve used to send you this letter.
