Mr. Max Soliven
Dear Mr. Soliven

At the risk of betraying my embarrassing preferences in reading matter, I am taking the liberty of jogging your memory (PDI, Jan.16) about the Al Capp character whom trouble followed around like a dark cloud.

His name was Joe Btfsplk, not "Mysztplk," as you have it.

I am afraid you are confusing the character with Mr. Mxyztplk, one of Superman’s regular antagonists, a dwarfish denizen of the fifth dimension, whose pranks wreaked havoc on this planet everytime he visited it. Mr. Mxyztplk was transported back to the fifth dimension only when he was tricked into uttering his name backwards.

I am glad you likened Brig. Gen. Isidoro to Al Capp’s Joe Btfsplk who was not at all at fault for all the misfortunes that dogged his footsteps.

If you compared the general to Mr. Mxyztplk, you would be implying in no uncertain terms that the general was somehow at fault for the disasters that took place whenever he was in command.
