Ang Pahayagang Malaya

While it would be nice for Malaya to carry more comments from the provinces, I disagree with the suggestion of Mr. Alfredo B. Talion of Calolbon, Catanduanes (Malaya, Mar. 17) that Malaya hire columnists from each region.

I prefer the present system under which anyone who thinks he has something to contribute to the public dialogue feels free to send his article to the People’s Forum.

My unhappiness with the manifesto-like articles from "concerned" groups that clutter up the People’s Forum is a small price to pay for enjoying the serious pieces of persons like community work specialist Emil Gamat, writer-publisher Antonio Abaya, professor Quirino Torres, and even journalism student Roni Turqueza (not to mention the malicious notes of former campus columnist Carlos Alfaro).

Hired columnists would even narrow the present range of style and opinion. The People’s Forum will improve as more people write more intelligently on more issues.
