Mr. & Ms. Special Edition

Mrs. Nene Abonitalla’s defense of Mrs. Bing Pimentel (Special Edition, June 28-July 4) irritated me to no end. She continuously referred to the assemblyman’s wife as the first lady of Cagayan (which she no longer is) and presumptuously described her as "our next First Lady."

Mrs. Abonitalla has persuaded me that Mrs. Pimentel is not so much an "Imelda-in-the-making" as an "Imelda-being-made." She is being made into another Imelda by Mrs. Abonitalla and the other would-be members of Mrs. Pimentel’s kitchen cabinet, who, already at this early date, surround the assemblyman’s wife, shield her from criticism, and reassure her of her past, present, and future greatness.
