I strongly believe Minister Jaime Laya’s denial that the cash prizes given to teachers at two Christmas raffles were bribes to get them to vote for the party in power (MALAYA, Jan. 16).

I accept without question Mr. Laya’s statement that the money was a free gift from himself, the First Lady, other ministry officials, and Makati business executives.

I also believe -- just as strongly -- that Mr. Laya told the international financial community the truth about the status of our dollar reserves.

I also believe in Santa Claus.
