Veritas letter

I'm afraid I can't go along with Efren L. Danao's endorsement of the view that the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) is crumbling (Veritas, Mar. 3).

True, more and more of the KBL intramurals are coming out into the open and an increasing number of KBL membersers have shown some independence. But most of those who have shown an independent streak are leaders in their own right --people who could win elections with only minimal help from the KBL.

The view that the KBL is crumbling would be far more defensible if the KBL members breaking ranks were those who would be nothing without the KBL.

When Minister Roberto Ongpin reconciles with his brother, when Gen. Vicente Piccio surrenders the Aquino-Galman indictees to the Bureau of Prisons, when Assemblyman Leonardo B. Perez starts soliciting the advice of Assemblyman Jaime Ferrer, and when Assemblyman Arturo Pacificador starts criticizing Ambassador Robert S. Benedicto -- that's when I'll believe that the KBL is crumbling.

Then, we can truly say that the sheep are leaving a sinking rat.
