The death of Joel Abong has not stopped Mr. Rolando Gripaldo from pursuing a tasteless debate on whether Joel’s father should have been castrated (Letters, Aug. 3).

Mr. Abong’s poverty and lack of schooling do not make him any less deserving of a recognition of his human dignity, or a regard for his privacy (especially at a time of bereavement).

Mr. Abong certainly deserves far better treatment than being used as the basis for Mr. Gripaldo’s hasty generalization that married men who can’t support a family are the objects of disgust and should be singled out as the primary targets of an effective birth control program (castration?).
