The people in the Commission on Population must be pretty stupid if they honestly believe that raising the legal age or marriage will lower the birth rate (MT, Feb. 14).

Very many women marry early because they have to get married. And so, raising the legal age of marriage will decrease not the number of births but the number of legitimate births.

The increase in the number of illegitimate births is a problem Popcom refuses to recognize. It does not confront the very real possibility that the rise in the number of illegitimate births may be due to its own propaganda which trumpets that one can engage in sex without facing the responsibilities of parenthood.

These are the people who want their office to be raised to the level of a ministry!
