Mr. Calixto T. Lee says (People’s Forum, Mar. 25) that to show firmness in decision-making, President Aquino should not have recalled the promotion of Lt. Col. Adalberto Yap.

Mr. Lee undoubtedly values firmness as a virtue higher than fairness or justice. He does not seem to realize that it is this set of cock-eyed priorities that has caused so many problems in this country.

It is bad enough that Mr. Lee insults Colonel Yap by justifying his promotion not on the basis of the colonel’s own achievements but on the basis of the political activism of his wife, Lorna.

What’s worse is that Mr. Lee insults Mrs. Yap with the suggestion that the major motivation for her activism is the desire to get her husband promoted.

But worst of all, Mr. Lee is perfectly satisfied with the detestable situation where a man’s promotion depends largely on the extent to which his wife "has endeared herself" to the appointing power.
